Prior to the beatdown of FIU, the Blue Hen Touchdown Club met, and heard from Assistant Head Coach, Art Link, Head Field Hockey Coach, Tara Zollinger, and one our Scout Team MVP’s, Nate Ray.
Art provided a lookback at the thrilling OT win over UConn, and a look ahead to Florida International. Apparently, the Equipment Team loaded everything necessary in the tractor trailer, based upon dominant 38-16 win.

Coach Zollinger let us know that in addition to continuing to recruit internationally, the program also has a strong focus on recruiting in the 302.
Tara’s mantra is: Simple Skills, Done Well, At Speed, Under Pressure.

We were pleased to hear from Nate Ray, our Scout Team Defensive MVP. Nate is a native of Wilmington and a graduate of Salesianum. He and our Scout Team Offensive MVP, Maddox Sills, were instrumental in preparing our squad for the steam rolling of the FIU Panthers.

Pre-UCONN Excitement
Our lunch on Friday, September 12 brought excitement to the
room and we had not even played the game against Connecticut.
The historic win on Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium
against an old-time rival was riveting to say the least!
The appearance of Quarterbacks Coach Sean Goldrich was a
harbinger for the tremendous game played by starting
quarterback Nick Minicucci. Coach Goldrich gave us some
insight about the others in the quarterback room stating there
really isn’t depth chart. An individual’s appearance in games will
depend on many factors including readiness and game situation.
Coach Goldrich’s comments about his QBs:
1. As stated previously by Coach Carty, Zach Marker is out for
the foreseeable future.
2. Riley Trujillo is incredibly gifted with a big arm and
athleticism with the ability to run.
3. EJ Archield is the biggest QB in the room. He is also the
smartest freshman that Goldrich has coached. He is
working hard just needs a little more experience to excel.
4. Austin Troyer is a walk-on with scholarship potential. He
has a great understanding of the offensive system and has
demonstrated his ability in practice.
5. Braden Streeter is “wired right”. He is very calm in all
situations and has tremendous arm talent.
Getting all of the quarterbacks ready to play is Coach’s primary
responsibility so that, if needed, they can enter the game and be
successful. To that end, the use of helmet communication at the
FBS level has made the learning curve shorter for each player as
every quarterback in practice can hear the call and the immediate
feedback.

Our second speaker was Ed Clark, a Delaware County, PA native
and strongside linebacker for the Blue Hens from 1971 to 1974
serving as team captain in 1974. Ed highlighted many of his great
memories from playing on the freshman team under Blue Hen
great Jimmy Flynn (where they served as cannon fodder for the
Varsity!) to the 20- game win streak that spanned three years.
His game recollections included Grambling in the playoffs,
McNeese State when the Hens scored 24 points in 5 and one half
minutes, and of course, a game against Temple at Veterans
Stadium with 37,000 in attendance. The following week Temple
only had 11,000 in the seats against their next opponent showing
the fan drawing power of the Hens.
Delaware Blue Hen football may have recently elevated to the
FBS but in looking back Ed Clark stated, “We were a small school
but big time”.
