10/30/2026 Meeting Report After Western Kentucky Win

We had several guest speakers ahead of the Western Kentucky win — Tyler Ferguson, Wayne Cunnigham, Mark Steimer, Sarah Jenkins and Martin Ingelsby.

Our first speaker was Tight End Coach, Tyler Ferguson. Coach Ferguson stated that “The best teams play their best ball in November. Here we are in November”. He stated that the Blue Hens are “trending in that direction, and playing good complimentary football”. He added that we have a big test this Saturday vs. Kennesaw State. Discussion of the current Tight Ends included Elijah Sessoms and Scott Moore and that as a group, the Tight Ends are averaging 16 yards per reception. It was also noted that we had four Tight Ends play vs. Missouri State.

Next, we heard from freshman Linebacker #42 Wayne Cunnigham. Wayne was honored as one of our Fightin’ Hens of the week. Asked about how he was recruited to UD, Wayne related to his relationship with Co-Defensive Coordinator, Rocco DiMeco. Wayne also has family members in Smyrna, DE, and this is his first time seeing the different seasons. He noted that in Florida, all that you see is green!

Our guest former player to speaker was Mark Steimer. Mark was a Tight End from 1979-1982. He reminisced about the 1982 playoffs in the rain and mud at Louisiana Tech, and the near miss championship vs. Eastern Kentucky.

Mark grew up going to Newark High games in the morning, and then home UD games in the afternoon. He recalled watching the great players and teams from the late 60’s and early 70’s. His parents had season tickets, and “for the kids, it was a big deal”. Since this was Western Kentucky week, Mark recalled the first time we played the Hilltoppers away, defeating them 38-14 in blistering heat. He noted that they had “no clue” of the Delaware Wing-T offense.

As a wrap-up, we heard Head Women’s Basketball Coach Sarah Jenkins and Men’s Coach Martin Ingelsby. Both coaches were optimistic for the season, and the new players that have been recruited to their programs, 14 for the women and 9 for the men.

Please join us on Thursday, November 5th as we hear from Defensive Line Coach, Kyre Hawkins, and special guest, Nolan Henderson.
